The partially automated retail store of Amazon, Amazon Go debuted with a Seattle location in January, but a new report suggests that plans for expansion are already in progress. "Several people familiar with the company's plans" told Recode that Amazon could open up to six new stores by the end of 2018.
Most of these stores would be in Seattle, but Amazon would also expand beyond its original territory by opening a store in Los Angeles. He spoke with the developer of The Grove, a large mall in the heart of LA just minutes from Hollywood and Beverly Hills. It's basically an upscale, outdoor mall, which is a common structure in Los Angeles. Amazon first made service debut in Los Angeles after testing them in Seattle, like its Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service. LA will also be the first area served by a new maritime service planned by the company.
With regard to Seattle stores, a source told Recode that Amazon had already identified three new locations last year.
Amazon Go is not competing with department stores like Target or with grocery stores like Ralph's, although Amazon now owns Whole Foods and has already tested its own grocery stores brick and mortar in the past. Rather, it is an automated convenience store, not to be confused with the boot largely criticized Bodega. The store offers easy-to-prepare meals, snacks, basic products and wine.
When you arrive at the store, you scan your phone, and the store's automated systems track what you're doing with 100 cameras before automatically charging you the correct amount on check-out. The editor-in-chief of Ars Sam Machkovech visited a store and tried to deceive his systems when the first store opened to the public last month, but he was only kind of successful . Here are some of the photos he took of the first store during his visit.

The line of waiting, flanked by Amazon Go cooks and packers of fresh produce.
On the other side of the entrance reveals that Amazon Go is connected to a larger office building. (The domes of the Amazon, which locals call "balls of Bezos", are a few meters away.
Hold your smartphone on the sensor to enter.
The exit side of the turnstiles. You do not need to keep your smartphone to leave.
A look inside.
There are many cameras in Amazon Go.
And I mean a lot.
A slightly tighter zoom.
The beer-and-wine section features in addition to a dome / security camera.
Beer and wine.
What's right with a red mix?
Cameras. Cameras go well with this red.
More cameras flanking alcohol.
The beer prices are pretty reasonable for a grab-and-go convenience store. Importantly, all Amazon Go prices are static, not fluid. You do not have to check the app for a discounted price per minute (unlike Amazon Books).
Amazon finally unveils its blue apron style "meals".
Buy raw ingredients, then cook them at home.
An average series of refrigerator shelves. But wait, what's it over there?
Yeah, another weird wired box. This can be another camera or sensor system. These are stuck in every shelf of refrigerator at the store.
Coke and La Croix. No barcode or special label. Just normal retail boxes.
As soon as someone picked up an object, a staff member approached his shelf to push other objects closer to the front. I asked if this concerned the sensors or the presentation. "Just the presentation," said the staff member.
A closer look at a yogurt price tag, which includes an individual barcode.
A variety of non-grocery items.
Amazon Go has been clearly designed by men. A feminine hygiene product is stuck with batteries.
You have not brought your own bag? You monster useless. But Amazon will not judge you.
It's unclear how much Amazon Go's cameras are tracking the take and return of cheeses to cream.
The right side selection is the complete selection of the Whole Foods branded product store. Nothing else.
Some things are out of stock.
The opening morning had a shortage of sandwich.
But there was a lot of boiled eggs.
More breakfast stuff.
Coffee. I really hope this place has cups of coffee, but alas.
Dear family members: please do not buy Amazon Go merch.
A teenager, tiny "coffee" can accommodate five people.
Coffee room, flanked by utensils, towels and microwaves.
If you have one of the five seats, enjoy Wi-Fi and electrical outlets.
Power and USB, yay.
The store is not completely unmanned. a human is on hand to check the identity documents of customers who buy alcohol, for example. Recode sources did not indicate when exactly the stores would open anything other than saying that Amazon was planning to expand before the end of the year.
