Google kills the Chromecast Audio

Enlarge / Chromecast audio allows you to connect just about any audio device to the distribution ecosystem via a jack of 3, 5 mm. TEAR.

Another day, another Google product died. Today, Google abandons the Chromecast Audio . The company told Android Police that it had stopped making the audio only version of Chromecast. Therefore, when the current stock runs out, the product will disappear forever. Here is the complete statement given to the Android Police:

Our product portfolio continues to evolve and we now offer a full range of products enabling users to enjoy audio. We stopped producing our Chromecast Audio products. We will continue to provide support for Chromecast Audio devices so that users can continue to enjoy their music, podcasts and more.

Chromecast is a popular way to transfer online media from one device to another. Buttons from YouTube, Chrome, Netflix, Spotify, Soundcloud, Facebook and about a million other applications allow users to easily send multimedia content to a monitor or a speaker.

While the Chromecast HDMI version remains in place, the audio version, which is connected to an existing speaker or audio system with a 3.5mm jack, is dead. In the future, Google's audio plans appear to focus on smart speakers such as Google Home and other devices with built-in streaming functionality. But Chromecast audio was a great way to incorporate smart features into existing or exotic audio configurations. It's a shame that he's gone.

For now, Chromecast Audio is still in stock at a few locations, including the Google Store which offers the device for $ 15, a $ 20 discount . I guess this makes it a liquidation sale, so do it while you can.
